Valley of Fire is Nevada’s oldest State Park. Join a road trip from Lake Mead to Utah and explore the most scenic places on the way. Wind, Water, Earth and Fire. Shaped by the elements and 150 Million Years, Valley of Fire State Park is a fantastic destination to visit in the middle of Nevadas desert. Before we were about to hit the road and the burning heat of Nevada again, we used the calm and much more cool morning to explore Boulder City. With around 16.500 inhabitants Boulder is nothing like Las Vegas, that lies literally next door. Boulder has a super laid back and outdoorsy atmosphere. Our first destination on the way to Valley of Fire State Park was Lake Mead: It is Americas first and largest National Recreation Area. Lake Mead is America's largest reservoir, and was created by the construction of the Hoover Dam. It stores enough water to be able to cover all of Pennsylvania in a foot of water. It has more than 1200 kilometers of shoreline and is 190 kilometers long. And we were about to ride 100 kilometers close to it’s shore. But Lake Mead is not only famous for its reservoir . 1.5 million acres of mountains, canyons, valleys are waiting to be explored. And then we arrived at our highlight for this ride: The Valley of Fire State Park: In the middle of the Nevada desert is a string of red rock, stretched out in a valley. These exceptional, twisted rock formations are a geological playground, sculptures shaped by time and built by the forces of water, chemistry and wind. About 150 million years ago great sand dunes grew where now the rocks of fire valley are. Through time and compaction these dunes became sandstone. The groundwater flowed through and molded the unusual shapes and patterns. And it carried various minerals that painted the stones in its exceptional colors: red, white, yellow, purple Enjoy the ride - and if you are in the area, Valley of Fire State Park is definitly worth a visit! // A roadtrip that dreams are made of: join my journey through the United States of America.
