In this video, I explain the fascinating world of plant galls. These unique structures are made in response to an insect, such as a sawfly, wasp, or aphid, that deposits eggs into the tissues of a plant. In response, the egg hatches and the larvae begin to feed on the plant. The plant grows a particular kind of gall structure around the larvae. Many of them are beautiful as well as functional. I show you the gall of a California Gall Wasp and explain some general biology of gall insects so that you can learn what these fascinating structures are.
