For example: Bakelite, Polythene, Teflon, PVC etc. Actually plastics are synthetic polymer. Classification of Plastic:- On the basis of the structure plastics are of two types:- Thermoplastic Thermosetting plastic Thermoplastic The plastics which become softer on heating and harder on cooling are known as thermoplastic. They retain their plasticity even after repeated heating and cooling. For Eg: polythene, PVC, polystyrene etc Spice boxes, water pipes are made up of PVC. Bottles, combs and bucket etc are made up of such plastics. Thermosetting plastic The plastics which become harder on heating and do not melt again i.e., when such plastics once set after being melted, cannot be moulded again. Due to presence of cross linked arrangement they become brittle and cannot be recycled. They can bear high temperature. Bakelite is used in making electrical insulators, plasticwares, electrical switches, batteries of vehicles etc. Properties of plastics:- Plastics are light in weight so they are easy to handle and manage. They are strong and durable. They are non-reactive, poor conductors of electricity. They can bear high temperature. It is cheaper than metals hence its use is increasing day by day. Application of Plastics Plastics are poor conductors of electricity. They do not allow the electric current to pass through them easily. They are therefore used to make covering of electric wires and other electrical appliances. The handle of cooking utensils, pressure cooker, frying pan are made up of bakelite plastics. Plastics are used in the form of container to store various chemicals, pickles, spices, oils etc in shops and home. In the field of agriculture the pipes used for irrigation are also made up of plastics. In the field of medical pills, bottles for syrup, gloves, injections, thread used during operation and various medical apparatus etc are made up of plastic. Special plastic made utensils are used to cook the food in microwave oven. Nonstick pan and other nonstick appliances have the coating of teflon. Fire brigade man used to wear clothes having a layer of specific plastic known as melamine to protect their body during extinguish the fire. Non Biodegradable substances The substances which are not degraded into simpler substances in the environment are known as non biodegradable substances. Plastics which pollute our environment should be recycled. Hence like a good citizen, by using 4 principle we can protect our environment from pollution. This 4R principle is as follows:- 1. Reduce 2. Reuse 3. Recycle 4. Recover ************************** If you like the video, plz like and subscribe us, as it will inspire us to move forward and update u with our new videos
